For more than 25 years, retail and visual merchandising expert Matthias Spanke has shaped and optimized brand experiences for more than 100 leading retailers worldwide.

Spanke's career started in Europe as Global Head of Visual Merchandising for retail chains like Tom Tailor, Tchibo, and Tally Weijl. In 2009, he shifted to the agency side and supported internationally renowned brands like Jil Sander, Porsche Design, and Puma with retail consulting and creative direction.

Spanke then moved to New York City to take on the role of Vice President Creative Director of Visual Merchandising for Macy’s Inc., overseeing the visual concepts for all Macy's stores in the US. 

He left the department store chain in 2017 to start the full-service agency BIG IDEAS Visual Merchandising. As Chief Executive Officer, he has expanded the company’s offices to Europe and the US. 

As a retail and visual merchandising expert, Spanke frequently leads workshops on the topics of retail trends and retail experience. 

Matthias Spanke is the author of the industry books, "Easy Branding in Fashion Retail" (2015), "Erfolgreiches Visual Merchandising" [English: "Successful Visual Merchandising"] (2012), "Retail Isn't Dead" (2020) and numerous articles for industry magazines.
